Imagine spending every day thinking about ways to continuously improve the health, safety and well-being of others. That’s exactly what Lonnie Schock does as part of DPR’s Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) shared leadership team and the Leadership Team. With a “safety as a value” mindset, Lonnie collaborates across DPR’s family of companies to integrate EHS into everything we do, making sure that the psychological safety and well-being of workers are as meaningful as working without injury.
After a fulfilling career in various EHS leadership positions, including diverse assignments at Hughes Aircraft Company and Intel Corporation, Lonnie brings practical and broad expertise to DPR. These experiences have given him a deep understanding of what works. Companies that strive for excellence need to be both technically sound and committed to safety, with the heart to improve–indeed, Ever Forward. DPR has it all. Lonnie notes, “The genuineness of DPR’s heart as an organization and the genuineness of everyone who works here are real and set us apart.”
Lonnie thrives helping to guide DPR on our journey to be the safest contractor, because he’s passionate about solving persistent challenges and most of all, people. Now in what he calls the “fourth and final!” chapter of his work life, he can’t wait to start work every morning. Knowing that our teams’ successes also mean successful outcomes for our customers, Lonnie helps drive us toward excellence in all aspects of EHS and beyond.
Lonnie is curious, loves to learn and build relationships with people. When he’s not working, he enjoys watching his growing kids’ games, spending quality time with his family and friends, and camping, fishing and just being outdoors.
Fun Facts
Favorite DPR core value: Ever forward
What you love about construction: I find great joy in seeing the results everyday and I love the constantly changing environment requiring quick and decisive leadership. I also enjoy interacting with new people each day and, perhaps most of all, the life-long friendships I have created in this business.
Word to the wise (advice): I would advise avoiding overthinking things, especially early in one’s career but really true for everyone. Be bold, chase big goals, never pass up opportunities to experience the world, new ideas and diverse perspectives.
