Mike Humphrey
- Role: Northeast Regional Co-Leader and Leadership Team Member
- Year started at DPR: 1992
- Location: Washington, DC
- Education: California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo
As a Northeast Region Co-Leader and member of DPR’s Leadership Team, Mike Humphrey helps support and empower project teams in the Northeast, serving customers in Baltimore, Maryland; Boston, Massachusetts; East Brunswick, New Jersey; Richmond, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Mike began his career as an intern on DPR’s first ground-up project, and joined DPR on a permanent basis in 1992, after graduating from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Growing along with the company, his operational experience includes intensive, hands-on construction management of complex, fast-track, large-scale projects. He also spent several years working to develop DPR’s integrated workgroups and the people who now lead them, ensuring that the entire family of companies continues to operate with a people-first mindset. Wanting to “be the kind of leader that knows every facet of our organization,” has propelled Mike on his incredible ride at DPR.
Mike prides himself on taking the time to be a careful listener and to understanding the customer’s business drivers and the importance of how a building functions or what it means for the business. DPR was in the midst of a highly sustainable project for the Packard Foundation when the stock market crashed in 2009. The Foundation lost about a third of its endowments as a result and thought they would have to cancel the project. It took six weeks of effort, but Mike and a DPR pre-construction team worked through every detail until they found a way to meet every project goal and deliver it within the reduced budget. He pushes limits to become the true partner our customers have come to expect.
Away from work, Mike enjoys high-energy activities such as distance cycling and hiking. He’s happiest when doing physical activities outdoors with the people he loves.
Fun Facts
- Favorite DPR Core Value: Enjoyment. This one can be easily misunderstood to be all about parties and after-work events (and don’t get me wrong, I love the parties and after-work events), but I truly find work to be fun and intrinsically satisfying. I’m inspired by our people.
- Favorite Thing About Construction: I’ve been working with my hands since I was 12 years old. I have loved getting to the end of a hard-working day, looking back and thinking, “Look what we just accomplished.” We are builders - builders of things, builders of people, builders of dreams.
- Your Hero: Mr. Incredible. I actually think he’s the least "super" of his family, but that’s why I love him. He plays his role and helps the rest of his super family honor and enact their own superpowers.
- Word to the Wise: Show up, listen carefully, speak your truth, and let go of the consequences.
