DPR Opens Offices in Houston and Singapore

Doug Finley and Troy Ireland saw opportunity in Houston, Dave Buckel saw it in Singapore, and after some serious consideration and planning they brought their ideas for new offices in those areas to DPR’s management team. The two regions, they explained, provided fertile ground on which DPR’s people and expertise could strengthen and grow. This kind of bold thinking and initiative led to the birth of DPR offices 16 and 17.

“The new Houston location will complete the Austin/Dallas/Houston triangle for us and give us an even stronger presence in Texas. We will be able to bring DPR’s expertise in the construction of technical facilities like data/com and biotech and capitalize on the economic growth of the area,” said Finley. Targeting the area’s data/com industry, the Houston office is already working with DPR national client InterNAP Network Services, which develops technologies to speed Internet connectivity, and is building out 13,000 sq. ft. of space for the company at an existing high-rise colocation facility in downtown Houston. DPR Houston opened Nov. 1, 2000 in temporary offices while crews built out 4,200 sq. ft. in its new Gensler-designed offices on the second floor in The Woodlands. The new office, which opened Feb. 19, 2001, is located at 10003 Woodloch Forest Drive on the Woodland Waterway in a heavily wooded 27,000-acre planned community just north of downtown Houston.

Meanwhile, a continent and a half away, Buckel is strengthening DPR’s strategic interests in Asia, working from the company’s first international office, established and registered in the Republic of Singapore in July 2000. The Singapore office’s initial projects include design management services of a 100,000-sq.-ft. colocation facility for US-based Telegis Networks and project management services for a 50,000-sq.-ft. data center for London-based Global Switch. Global Switch has wrapped up design and pre-construction activities also and is well along in the construction process with a projected completion date of June 2001. “Our clients approached DPR and asked us to bring our expertise in building state-of-the-art mission critical facilities to the Asian region to help ensure they can meet the needs of the expanding market here in this Asian hub of data/com facilities,” said Buckel. The move also allows DPR to grow with its clients throughout Asia and to expand on a global level its purpose of “building great things.”
