Camino Mountain View Project Wins FIATECH CETI Award

DPR’s highly acclaimed Camino Medical Group Mountain View Campus recently won yet another award: the FIATECH CETI (Celebration of Engineering and Technology Innovation) Award for Real-Time Project & Facility Management, Coordination & Controls. In its awards announcement, FIATECH said the Camino project “serves as a model of what can be accomplished through the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) combined with a lean construction/integrated project delivery approach. Sutter Health/Camino Medical Group challenged the design and construction teams to jointly deliver a 250,000-sq.-ft. medical office building and associated 1,100-stall parking structure of high quality at a lower cost than the traditional design-bid-build project delivery model.”

DPR Receives Recognition for Playing It Safe

With one of the safest records in the construction industry—including a 2007 recordable incident rate of 1.6—DPR was honored with a 2007 Excellence in Safety Award from the Construction Employers’ Association (CEA). “Our goal is an Injury Free Environment,” said DPR Safety Director Rodney Spencley. “And this isn’t achieved simply by adhering to OSHA and industry regulations; it’s the product of the culture of safety we’ve built at DPR, a culture that believes that zero incidents is an achievable goal.”

Construction Lessons Learned at Butte College

Success breeds success. That’s the lesson the Butte-Glenn Community College District, located in Oroville, CA, has learned by working with the team of DPR and LPA Sacramento on its Butte College construction projects. With five successful projects under its belt, the District hired DPR Construction as the builder and LPA Sacramento as the architect for a 6th project—the $18.4 million, 72,000-sq.-ft., two-story Butte College Instructional Arts Facility, which includes a performing arts theater, a woodshop, multi-use classrooms, and laboratories for sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, photography, drawing and painting. Innovative approaches on the CM-at-Risk project, which is targeting Silver LEED® for New Construction certification, include a near “paperless” jobsite and the use of BIM for the constructability review and overhead coordination. Having thoroughly done its homework on the elements of a successful construction project, the District is also working with DPR and LPA on a 7th project, currently in preconstruction.
