The idea of a most admired company being greater than any one person or small group of people resonated with DPR’s founding leadership team. So much so that our co-founders, Doug Woods, Peter Nosler and Ron Davidowski—the D, P, and R—started DPR in 1990 by establishing a shared leadership structure and a succession plan that requires continual ownership transition to the next generation of owners and leaders.
The success of DPR, ranked the No. 10 general contractor in the country (ENR 2021), and the seamless transition of ownership and leadership beyond the first generation of founders are testaments to a strong vision, building raving fans, and hiring, inspiring, developing and growing great people.
As we move ever forward with the memories, lessons and vision set by Doug, who passed away on May 19, we do so with his “believe it and it will happen” spirit and passion for building great things. While there’s no substantial completion to building a great company, we honor Doug and march forward every day in our quest to deliver superior results, make a distinctive impact and build lasting endurance that transcends any single extraordinary person.
Doug once said: “You’ve got to wake up in the morning and want to go build buildings. If you like doing that, you’re going to have fun.” The stories in this issue are full of people who embody that attitude every day. We hope that they can be a small reminder of how much fun it is to build great things.
Enjoy.
