DPR Construction Announces Intent to Acquire Hardin Construction
DPR Construction (DPR), a national technical builder specializing in highly complex and sustainable projects, recently signed a Letter of Intent to acquire Atlanta-based Hardin Construction Company, LLC. The two companies intend to combine operations in the Southeast and Texas markets, where both have a strong local presence. The goal is to finalize the transaction in March at which time more information will be announced.
“Expanding our national footprint, especially our presence throughout the Southeast, has been a key strategic objective for DPR. In Hardin, we have a shared philosophy on building, business and customer service–making this alignment not only valuable for our companies–but for our customers,” said Doug Woods, co-founder and president, DPR. “This announcement marks an inflection point in our company history. We’ve grown organically for more than 20 years by placing a priority on integrity and taking care of people, including doing what is right for our customers and making sure we understand their business and values. We view this as an opportunity to scale operations in the Southeast and provide even better service to customers.”
“DPR represents a strong strategic partner for Hardin Construction Company,” said Hardin Chairman Brantley Barrow. “The agreement will allow Hardin to continue focusing on its strongest core markets while enhancing our capability to grow in markets and products where DPR is strong, as well as expanding opportunities for our associates.”
Hardin’s portfolio includes more than 1,400 projects, including a number of landmark buildings: Arthur M. Blank Family Office, the first LEED Gold certified office building in the southeast, Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, Mall of Georgia, Terminus and 3344/SOVEREIGN—all in metro Atlanta; PNC Plaza building in Raleigh, N.C.; Tampa International Airport main terminal renovation and Marriott Waterside in Tampa, Fla.; St. Augustine University Academic Building in Austin, Texas; and Darden Restaurant Support Center and four large resort projects for Disney in Orlando, Fla.
Ranked the 24th largest general contractor in the nation by ENR magazine, DPR will continue to focus on providing services to its five core markets, including Advanced Technology/Mission Critical, Healthcare, Higher Education, Life Sciences and Corporate Office development across the country. Notable projects include Facebook data centers in Forest City, N.C., Prineville, Ore. and Lulea, Sweden; Scripps Research Center and Max Planck Florida Institute in Jupiter, Fla.; Clemson University Bio-Science buildings in Clemson, S.C.; Novelis R&D Laboratory in Kennesaw, Ga.; North Austin Medical Center and University of Texas at Austin High Performance Computing Facility in Austin, Texas; and the Library of Congress National Audio-Visual Conservation Center in Culpeper, Va.
Both companies are privately held and terms of the agreement will not be disclosed. Hardin projects currently under construction will be completed as Hardin Construction, including joint venture projects, once the acquisition is complete.
