DPR Construction Appoints Nils Blomquist as Regional Manager for Sacramento
DPR Construction (DPR), one of the nation’s leading technical builders focused on highly complex and sustainable projects, announces the appointment of Nils Blomquist as regional manager for the Sacramento region. Starting in 2005 as a Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing estimator and later preconstruction manager, Blomquist has experience in all five of DPR’s core markets – advanced technology, corporate office, healthcare, higher education and life sciences.
“It’s been great to see Nils grow at DPR, now taking on the role of regional manager,” said Doug Woods, co-founder and leader of DPR’s Management Committee. “Nils’s diverse experience and dedication, coupled with his Sacramento perspective, gives him a unique understanding on how to provide best-in-class service to our customers. Under his leadership, we expect to hire and inspire the best people in the business.”
A Sacramento native from a family of builders, Blomquist has deep roots in the construction industry, having learned carpentry and woodworking from his grandfather and father as a teenager. He furthered his training in environmental engineering at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo before joining DPR.
“I’m passionate about complicated, technical projects that benefit people, like facilities that manufacture cancer medication or environmentally responsible buildings that are highly energy efficient,” said Blomquist. “At DPR, we are able to take a long term view of projects, taking into account the total lifecycle cost–choices that we make during design and construction, which often can affect a building’s performance for decades.”
Recent DPR projects in the Sacramento region include work for the Alex G. Spanos Heart & Vascular Center at Mercy General Hospital, a facility where lives are saved every day. The Alex G. Spanos Heart & Vascular Center also exemplifies great building practices and earned recognition in Sacramento as the 2014 Best Real Estate Project.
DPR Sacramento first opened in 1990 and has grown to a staff of 94 employees, supporting projects of all sizes for a client roster that includes NorthBay Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, University of the Pacific and Genentech. The Sacramento office performs projects of all sizes from large ground-up projects to small tenant improvements and has an average project size of $2M.
Additionally, the Sacramento office has become an integral and indispensable ally to the local community, including DPR’s continued support of the Roberts Family Development Center, Architecture Construction and Engineering (ACE) Mentor Program and Habitat for Humanity. Currently, the Sacramento office is helping build a Habitat for Humanity home for a low income working mother of two, in the memory of longtime DPR employee John Kramer.
