DPR’s Sustainable Building Experts Break Ground on Green Project on Stanford University Campus
DPR Construction, Inc., a forward-thinking national commercial general contractor and construction manager, announces that construction is currently underway on its latest environmentally sustainable project for the Carnegie Institution of Washington. The $4.5 million Global Ecology Center, the new home for the Carnegie Department of Global Ecology on the Stanford University campus, includes an 11,000-sq.-ft. research building and 3,500-sq.-ft. warehouse. In keeping with the purpose of the new facility "to provide a new standard for combining science and sustainability," the new resource center will be built to minimize environmental impacts, maximize energy efficiency and incorporate sustainable materials.
A Leader in Sustainable Construction
A leader in the green building movement and member of the U.S. Green Building Council since 1999, DPR is serving as the general contractor and working closely with the entire team, including architect Esherick Homsey Dodge & Davis, to ensure that the sustainable objectives of the project are met. Drawing upon its extensive green building and technical construction expertise, DPR will be incorporating a number of environmentally friendly elements into the project, including a "Night Sky" spray radiant cooling system with thermal storage, sunshades, high-performance glazing, operable windows, efficient ventilation with heat recovery, radiant slab heating and cooling, light shelves and a fully day-lit interior with lighting controls.
"Our years of technical construction experiencebuilding biotech cleanrooms and large-scale semiconductor manufacturing facilitiesmake us ideally suited for sustainable, high-performance green projects that often require alternative materials and a collaborative approach to ensure successful delivery," said DPR Project Manager Greg Johnson. "We've also created a preconstruction management tool that allows us to compare first cost impacts and life cycle savings so customers can make informed decisions when it comes to sustainable design and construction."
The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
