Local Youth Get Refreshed Learning Spaces After Boys & Girls Club Service Project

DPR Construction Extends Six Years of Support with Renovation of Garfield Club Facility

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J., October 10, 2024 – Local youth will have an enhanced experience at the Boys & Girls Club of Garfield after DPR Construction recently dedicated time to renovate a classrooms for the organization as part of a month-long community initiative—Service September.

"Our youth deserve a vibrant program space to grow and learn. DPR has committed to transforming this program space into one that is truly representative of our youth and Boys & Girls Club programming,” stated Shane Sudol, Chief Executive Officer, Boys & Girls Club of Garfield.

Approximately 20 employees, including project managers, superintendents, carpenters, and painters were on site to transform the learning spaces. Working pro-bono, DPR crews leveled floors, installed carpeting and ceilings, and repainted the space creating a vibrant environment for educational and enrichment programs.

“The Boys & Girls Clubs facilities are busy. Supporting their renovation efforts enable the organization to maximize their space, increase capacity and enhance programming for the kids,” said Taylor Casserly, a DPR senior project engineer who also serves as a local champion for DPR’s community initiatives. “For six years we’ve been proud to partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey, making a lasting impact in our local communities.”

In 2023, thirty offices completed nearly $2M in projects for community partners, ranging from specialized services like planning and estimating to fresh coats of paint and larger renovations. Each project is tailored to the operational needs of the organization.

DPR’s commitment to the Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey extends beyond this renovation. Since 2018 DPR has supported the organization with more than 120 volunteers working on building projects across their facilities including Garfield, Clifton, Newark and Union. Volunteers have also participated in career fairs and educational programs introducing the students to the design and construction industry, and provided more than $140,000 in grants.

This partnership underscores DPR’s dedication to fostering social change and making a positive impact in the communities where they live and work. DPR's community initiatives focus on leveraging the firm’s unique skills as a builder to support under-resourced youth. More details are available in DPR’s GSR Annual Report.
