The Biomedical Sciences Partnership Building (BSPB) was the second project awarded to DPR • Sundt on the Phoenix Biomedical Campus. This new 245,000-sq.-ft., high-rise biomedical research laboratory consists of 10 floors, a basement and rooftop mechanical penthouse. The project broke ground in October 2014 and includes a basement research area and a three-level bridge that both connect to the adjacent Health Sciences Education Building (HSEB) that DPR • Sundt completed in 2012.

Additionally, the facility includes live imaging, a 200-person seminar room, loading dock, centralized RO water, centralized liquid nitrogen and wet benches with flow cytometry, histology, microscopy, radioisotope and tissue culture distributed core spaces supporting genomics and proteomics research. Upper floors comprise dry laboratories supporting computational biology and biomechanical engineering. Four interior lab floors were shelled for future build out. Central structural, plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems have been sized and designed for maximum flexibility accommodating a broad range of research possibilities and allowing easy conversion of existing research space.
An aggressive design-construct time frame demanded a fast-track delivery process requiring construction to commence just six months following the start of design programming, with a 22-month construction duration.
