DPR mobilized on the existing site in August 2017, steering the delivery of the existing 100,000-sq.-ft. Verizon data center and converting it to the new client's standard data center. The renovation involved the complete overhaul and replacement of the 30-year-old mechanical and electrical systems, while the facility remained 100 percent operational with zero downtime due to existing customers.
Project Scope
The team successfully coordinated and submitted all shutdowns and planned interruptions 55 days in advance. A corresponding security badge effort between DPR, the site operations team, and trade partners kept the site operational and secure during 24-hour shifts.
The electrical scope of work required upgrades of all 8 switchgear, modifications to 12 existing UPS, installation of 25 new ATS, replacement of all 13 maintenance bypass cabinets, modifications to all paralleling gear and generator controls, and four new UPS. The mechanical scope of work included four new rooftops AHUs, 49 CRACs/condensers and five make-up air units. The space includes a new BMS and security system, both installed while the existing systems remained operational. Included in the build-out was the renovation of operational and support spaces, as well as an expansion to the footprint of the building.
DPR utilized BIM to create, coordinate, and validate the design implementation of multiple areas. The team successfully coordinated around existing underground utilities and placed over 30 new conduits to new equipment in medium voltage equipment yard.
