Details
Phase I began with the renovation of the 20,000-sq.-ft., state-of-the-art football locker rooms. The personalized lockers included nameplates on the lockers for the university’s football team and safes for personal belongings featuring charging stations for cell phones and tablets. The renovation also featured a physical therapy suite and a player’s lounge for the team. The most complex feature of this renovation is the hydrotherapy room where student-athletes can soak between three pools including one high-temperature pool and a cold-water plunge for the ultimate hydrotherapy experience and to accelerate post-workout recovery. The room’s third pool features an underwater treadmill to support the players game-time readiness.
Phase II of the Schmidt Family Complex consisted of a state-of-the-art weight room, team auditoriums, coaches lockers and offices, film rooms, indoor/outdoor banquet spaces with a full service kitchen, computer labs, renovated bathrooms, equipment storage, plus two outdoor football practice fields designed to make FAU’s football program appealing to potential recruits. Phase II also included the Avron B. Fogelman Sports Museum which houses an impressive collection of sports memorabilia from around the United States, taking visitors through a visual progression of American sports alongside vignette's of the country's growth and unique story telling. Everything in the museum was donated by Former Kansas City Royals owner and longtime Boca Raton resident, Avron B. Fogelman.
Another part of phase II is the home of FAU’s Graduate School of Business Executive Education programs. The new facility includes high tech teaching auditoriums with flex space and executive style administrative offices. The existing parking garage, next to the University’s football stadium, was transformed to accommodate this expansion. This required the building to have extensive soundproofing, fireproofing and vibration considerations for the precast deck, and the addition of extensive waterproofing enhancements to the existing systems for the benefit of the future College of Business program.
