Internap Data Center Build-Out
Internap Data Center Build-Out | Secaucus, New Jersey
In the fall of 2012 Internap was looking to relocate and expand their New York City operations. DPR provided due diligence and feasibility study services, helping them settle on Secaucus, New Jersey as the location of their primary facility for the New York/New Jersey market. Working closely with Internap under a design-build contract, a master plan was developed which laid out a phased renovation schedule for the 105,000-sq.-ft. shell and associated exterior equipment yards.
Project Scope
Phase I included the build-out of 39,900-sq.-ft. with 13,600-sq.-ft. of white space, 11,000-sq.-ft. of electrical and mechanical Infrastructure and 15,300-sq.-ft. of support spaces comprised of a customer care center, sales and operations offices and circulation space. The data center is designed to support 200 watts per sq.-ft. and up to 18kW per rack.
With residences just 500 feet away, a demountable sound absorption wall system was used to reduce the disturbance to the neighbors, meeting local codes and providing flexibility for expansion of the exterior equipment yard re-using the existing wall system.
Phase I was 95 percent sold out prior to the start of Phase II, which followed right behind and provided and additional 25,750-sq.-ft. of white space along with a second UPS room, 2,400kW of UPS capacity, 800 additional tons of chilled water capacity and 4MW of generator capacity.
