Medallia’s 222,000-sq.-ft. corporate headquarters office in San Mateo was a collaborative design-build project between DPR and M Moser Associates. The features of the space showcase a mixture of technology and non-traditional design. However, beyond that, this workspace showcases Medallia’s global diversity and increasing scale, while influencing transparency and connectivity.

Details
The design of the workplace was based off of many informally planned cities. By studying these city maps, the design team was able to identify “left-over” spaces between buildings; they then used those ideas to develop small meeting spaces. By doing this, they were able to create layered pockets of semi-enclosed meeting spaces, in areas that would typically go to waste. This unique approach allows open space collaboration within the office, with improved ability to focus at workstations. In approaching the design from an “active void” perspective, the teams were able to reduce construction costs and make the best use of the overall space.
The IIDA recently awarded Medallia the 2018 IIDA People’s Choice Honor Award, which recognized the innovations achieved with collaboration between design and construction.
