The Memorial Hermann Sugar Land campus expansion included a six-story, 155,000-sq.-ft. patient tower, adding 60 beds, an expanded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and new 16-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMU), increasing the hospital’s total bed count to 149.

Details
The expansion also included three procedure rooms, a pharmacy, a central decontamination space, lab and administrative spaces. Upgrades to existing MEP systems were completed to double the capacity to the existing central plant to support the new tower. New construction was tied into the existing hospital through a connector lobby on the first floor. A Starbucks servery, physicians dining area and pre-admission services suite, and centralized outdoor healing garden were also part of the expansion. The new tower also includes conference space on the first floor for community groups and business events.

The Future
Potential future expansion was top of mind for the new patient tower, with the fifth floor held as shell space that can quickly be converted to 30 additional patient rooms and 4 new operating rooms. Additionally, the tower was built with The tower's foundation and infrastructure were also built to add four additional floors at a later date.
