NCSU Phytotron Energy Conservation Project
NCSU Phytotron Energy Conservation Project | Raleigh, NC
DPR successfully executed the CM @ Risk services for the NC State Phytotron Energy Conservation Project. This $5M project is a mechanically and electrically focused upgrade of a plant growth research laboratory. The Phytotron project is the first "Self-Performed" ESPC (Energy Savings Performance Contract) executed by a state agency in the State of North Carolina, and as such, the project is unique in that the funding mechanism will be via the private market, after validation of an IGEA (investment grade energy audit). To supplement our preconstruction services, DPR led the execution of a working "mock-up" of a growth chamber, completing a fully functioning lighting and mechanical retrofit of one of the 40-year-old chambers, which allowed the end-user to provide feedback on the proposed retrofits and allowed the design team to measure actual before-and-after utility usage.DPR has been a value-added partner to NC State and has helped the team collaboratively work through the unique phasing, constructability, and regulatory requirements that come as a result of the "Self-Performed" execution method that NC State has selected.
