University of Southern California Norris Healthcare Center
University of Southern California Norris Healthcare Center | Los Angeles
The University of Southern California's Norris Healthcare Center, part of the Keck School of Medicine, is a major regional and national resource for cancer research, treatment, prevention, and education. In an effort to expand its outpatient cancer care services, USC Norris built a new seven-story consultation center. The 112,000-sq.-ft. OSHPD 3 (with OSHPD 1 components) clinical building is comprised of six levels above grade, plus a lower level equipped with six outpatient surgery and procedure rooms, imaging, radiation, oncology, infusion, pharmacy, and laboratory. There is a cutting-edge Multiple Sclerosis (MS) clinic, as well as west coast “destination” urology services.
Project Scope
Challenges arose on the project, including tight job site constraints and an owner-initiated full building reprogram, which affected every floor and resulted in intensive reprogramming costs, schedule resequencing, and extensive BIM and value engineering efforts. Additionally, the building includes a pneumatic tube system for sample transport between all seven levels of the building and required seven permit packages (including OSHPD 1).
