Rasmussen College of Nursing Ocala Tenant Improvement
Rasmussen College of Nursing Ocala Tenant Improvement | Ocala, Florida
This project consisted of the renovation of an existing building in Ocala to accommodate the Rasmussen College of Nursing. The project consisted of full preconstruction and construction phase services for roughly 20,000-sq.-ft. of classroom and office space, nursing labs, learning center and administrative facilities. It also included structural upgrades and improvements to an existing building to meet programmatic needs, as well as code update requirements.
Details
The project is notable for its custom angular-radiused perforated aluminum wall panel system at its front entry. This system is supported by structural steel tube framing and ties into the building’s EIFS exterior via an aluminum canopy. Requiring the constant coordination and communication with several trade partners, this added a high level of technicality to the project.
Additionally, a hurricane-resistant bi-fold sliding glass door storefront system bisects the interior and covered exterior student study spaces. On the interior, entrants are greeted by cast-in-place concrete steps and radiused ramps that give way to the lobby’s transition ring and welcome area. The entire facility is highlighted by exposed ceilings and open structure, illuminated by high-end linear cluster fixtures, while the rooms and corridor pathways are brightened by colorful LVT and carpet planks.
The project also included structural upgrades to the existing building. The project team worked with the owner and design team to facilitate the alignment of the required in-wall backing material with the changing quantities and locations of nursing lab equipment, so the overall schedule was not impacted. The project was completed on schedule to allow for Rasmussen’s transition from its previous campus location to the new facility, while also accommodating the start of the fall school semester. The team also maintained an injury-free environment and achieved their zero safety incidents goal.
