the Project
Commanding three levels and 60,000 interior and exterior square feet, RH Marin blurs the lines between residential and retail, indoors and outdoors, home and hospitality. This innovative experience features luxury furniture collections in a gallery setting, showcasing RH Interiors, RH Modern and RH Outdoor. The seamlessly integrated culinary offering, the RH Rooftop Restaurant, highlights a thoughtfully curated menu of enduring classics accompanied by a selection of artisanal wines. RH Marin also includes RH Interior Design and a rooftop park.
The structure is flooded with natural light and built with architectural details that set the standard for future RH Galleries. Design features include a double-spiraling, three-story curved grand atrium staircase; flawlessly uniform polished concrete floors and entryway; a 3,000-sq.-ft. professional chef’s kitchen; and a 16-seat marble chef’s table with views of the San Francisco Bay.
The restaurant is situated in a year-round skylit garden escape amidst trickling fountains, heritage olive trees and sparkling chandeliers. Its retractable glass walls open onto a beautifully landscaped park framing stunning views of Mount Tamalpais to the west and San Francisco Bay to the east.
The building includes an elaborate lighting control system, a mechanical VRF system with integrated radiant floors and chilled beams, and a fully glass-enclosed rooftop restaurant and kitchen. The project involved extensive coordination with the shopping center management, and significant site improvements were underway during the gallery’s construction. The team communicated daily with the adjacent site contractor and mall operator to minimize the impact of the neighboring construction on both the gallery and property. DPR self-performed the concrete, millwork install, DFH, and specialties scopes of work.
Concrete
Visit any RH Gallery and you’ll see that flawless concrete is a defining feature of the store’s aesthetic. At RH Marin, the entrance of the Gallery on the first floor was especially important as it immediately transports shoppers to a tranquil coastal vacation featuring the brand’s luxurious outdoor furniture. Understanding the significance of this area, DPR’s self-perform team designated this a "distinguishing feature of work" which means more planning and QA/QC services would be dedicated to the feature.
Our concrete teams learned early that they would need to execute special soil prep and stabilization measures since the building sits on soft bay mud. They were also able to harness the lessons learned and best practices based on experience from previous galleries DPR has built with RH. The DPR Concrete team created several mockups to review slab on grade and slab on metal deck. RH approved mix designs prior to placement to ensure that we met RH’s concrete finish expectations. The result was the flawless concrete RH and DPR are both known for.
