The New Center for the Arts project on the Rio Americano High School campus was more than a music building replacement, it was a campus revitalization. DPR kicked-off work on campus in the summer of 2016 by giving the existing buildings on the campus a new coat of exterior paint. Then began demolition of the existing, outdated music building and construction of the new building. The new state of the art music building is 13,400 sq. ft. and includes an auditorium with 350 fixed seats, two classrooms, instructor’s office, private recording studios, secured music equipment storage and other support spaces for the program.

The campus revitalization also included site utility upgrades and new concrete walk ways and seat walls throughout the campus. The main gym and practice gyms were upgraded, the boy’s and girl’s locker rooms received new flooring, ADA showers and lockers. Throughout the campus, the old student lockers were removed, and new lockers were installed. The irrigation system was upgraded and new landscaping was installed throughout the campus.
Building on a fully occupied campus with students, safety was of utmost importance. During construction, special care was paid to keep the students safe and out of the construction zone while keeping the rest of the campus accessible.
