About the

Project

The project included a 4,000 sq. ft lab space on the second floor of a two-story warehouse with ISO 7 and ISO 8 clean rooms for inoculation, manufacturing, harvesting, and quality control along with supporting offices, and materials management. The sub-scale pilot plant was designed to support the scale-up activities for SCiFi Foods to develop cultured beef products from small-scale research quantities to 500L bioreactor quantities.

Design-to-Build

This design-to-build project was delivered in 7 months with the target budget set at the beginning of the project. The combination of the client-provided program and process information, material and personnel flows, and DPR's design-to-build expertise helped establish a clear plan from the start. DPR’s project team onboarded the architect and MEPF (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, & Fire Protection) trade partners early, and created the integrated team to develop a design that met the owner's target budget and then documented for permitting, bidding, buyout, construction and record purposes.

Not only was this project completed on time and on budget but SCiFi Foods is now the only company in the world with beef cell lines that grow in single-cell suspension, enabling them to scale production of cultivated beef quickly and affordably.

Self-Perform Work

Our Self Perform Work (SPW) team performed all drywall, ceilings, doors, frames, and hardware on this project. With the project delivery schedule being a prominent concern for the client, we were able to shave off a significant amount of time by identifying the preexisting conditions of the building and support the architectural design and documentation efforts with constructive input meeting quality, schedule and cost goals.
