U-District Office and Lab
U-District Office and Lab | Seattle, WA
The U-District Office and Lab space was designed to conduct research on how robots interact with people and the physical world. The location at the University of Washington’s incubator facility, CoMotion Labs, was strategically important so the client could have a symbiotic relationship with the University.
The new area included open offices, conference rooms, lab spaces, an IT closet, a shower room, a break area, phone rooms, a library, a robot research area and a robot test kitchen. The test kitchen provided a fully equipped kitchen to research a robot’s ability to perform cooking tasks.
DPR built out the new space in a cold shell on the 6th floor of an occupied building. The occupied facility in an urban setting and the lack of a freight elevator presented challenges during construction. DPR kept lines of communication open with the neighboring tenants, the construction management team, the architect and the end users to provide consistent updates throughout construction.
