Tech giant’s sustainable office prioritizes the comforts of home

Uber Mission Bay 3 & 4 | Mission Bay, California

Located on a superblock of four buildings, complementary to the Chase Center Arena, home of the Golden State Warriors, DPR Construction completed a build-out of Uber's two 11-story headquarters towers in the new and up and coming Mission Bay neighborhood in San Francisco, California. This amazing employee-focused office space project includes a split of two buildings equating to 584,000 sq. ft that house 4,000 of Uber’s employees.

The

Towers

With home offices becoming a large part of the work ecosystem, each tower is designed and built to encourage collaboration and celebration, which includes quiet spaces for focus time and self-reflection. The towers also include secure lobbies, kitchens, cafeterias, and landscaped exterior terraces. The exterior terrace is designed to bring outdoor natural elements indoors, and housing 12-foot-tall arching sunshades. DPR self-performed all trades included in this project by using the GMP method, which saved the client a considerable amount of money.

In addition, the project contains an 8-foot vertical planting system intended to stimulate creativity, productivity, energy, and mood balance for employees and visitors. Within each floor plate is a coffee space, library, conference rooms, workstations, and support spaces such as IDF (Intermediate Distribution Frame) rooms.

Speed-to-Market

One important client factor in this project was the delivery schedule. After overcoming a 7-week government shutdown due to COVID-19, DPR’s quality team was able to effectively collaborate with the design team to avoid rework. This ensured the project remained on schedule and was ready to be given to Uber.

With this project being in a dense area, DPR had to coordinate truck routes and cranes and power shutdowns with 6 other general contractors and city officials within a two-block radius weekly.
