Central Florida Behavioral Hospital Expansion
Central Florida Behavioral Hospital Expansion | Orlando, Florida
In an effort to increase access to mental health services in Central Florida, DPR was selected for the Integrated Project Delivery project which included a 37,000-sq.-ft., 48-bed expansion to the Central Florida Behavioral Hospital. The Universal Health Services Central Florida Behavioral Hospital sits on 7.134 acres and provides inpatient and outpatient services for children and adults in Central Florida. The 48 new beds are used specifically for adult psychiatric patients, and brought the hospital’s total bed count up to 174.
Project Scope
The scope of work included a two-story addition to the existing hospital as well as 87 new parking spaces, secured patient activity spaces, service drives, emergency vehicle access, egress access to public ways, storm water management, drainage and ample green spaces. DPR maximized value and schedule by self-performing scopes such as framing, drywall, concrete foundations, sidewalks, and ceilings. BIM modeling was used for overhead ceiling coordination
Construction, in and adjacent to occupied healthcare facilities can effect facility functions, staff and patients in a number of ways. Infection control is a top concern, along with noise and vibration control. On each project, our team implements a program to mitigate disruption, taking into account all aspects of construction logistics and sequencing along with requirements of the staff and facility’s ongoing operations. Formal communication between the owner, staff, DPR and subcontractors via schedule updates and weekly meetings is supplemented by daily talks with all concerned parties helped this project pass ACHA inspection.
