Details
The new, seven-story, 250,000-sq.ft. Wolfson Children’s Hospital Critical Care and Baptist Arrival Tower will include five floors of critical children’s care, with 75 NICU beds and a 26-bed PICU. The first and second floors will become the new “front door” to the hospitals and provide efficient public access throughout the campus. The second floor of the new tower will offer visitors easy accessibility by way of a new skybridge connected to the medical center’s parking deck. The pedestrian bridge will open into two floors of grand lobby space of the entry tower.
Disruption
Major components of the project are the complexity of the integration and tie-in into three other adjacent campus facilities, upgrades to the campus' primary central energy plant, and minimizing patient disruptions throughout the duration of construction. The new patient care tower will be connected to an existing garage, Wolfson's Children's Hospital and another existing Baptist tower.
Prefabrication
Prefabrication is a key driver to the success of this project. The project team, which includes construction partner, Perry McCall Construction, will lean on our recent past success at Jacksonville’s Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville extended campus, where we prefabricated and installed the pedestrian bridge at the new Baptist MD Anderson’s Cancer Center, which opened in 2018.
